ANNUAL REPORT 2025

A Note from the Director

Thirty years ago, Larimer County voters did something visionary. They chose to invest in the very soil beneath our feet.

2025 marked the 30th anniversary of the Help Preserve Open Space (HPOS) sales tax. This milestone is more than a celebration of a ballot measure; it is a testament to a shared belief that thoughtful land conservation, active stewardship, and public access are essential to our quality of life.

To honor this legacy, we launched ‘30 and Thriving,’ a public awareness campaign designed to spotlight the people, partnerships, and special places that have defined the last three decades of open space protection in our community.

Since 1995, your support has allowed us to transform a vision into a tangible landscape of success:

  • 64,000+ acres of land permanently safeguarded.

  • 100+ miles of trails constructed for hiking, biking, and reflection.

  • Millions of visitors served and countless connections were made in the natural world.

While we celebrate our history, we are not standing still. Today, we face the complex realities of a changing climate, surging recreation demands, and a growing population. We are meeting this extraordinary moment by working smarter, together —collaborating across the region to ensure our natural resources remain resilient for the next 30 years.

Our work has always been about the long game. This 30th anniversary is not just a reflection on the past; it is a call to shape the future. Because of your continued support, we can keep investing in the health of our landscapes and the spirits of the people who enjoy them.

I invite you to explore the ‘30 and Thriving’ campaign, and join us as we write the next chapter of Larimer County’s conservation story.

Aligning Together with COMPASS

2025 marked the midpoint of our five-year strategic plan, COMPASS. In response, COMPASS was restructured around four measurable priorities for 2025–2027, each anchored in our mission and values. This refresh honors the foundation we built together while sharpening our focus for the years ahead.
